Matched pair of Vintage French single beds carved painted

A rather unusual vintage matched pair of single French beds (ie: mirror images of each other). They have an aged painted finish and are probably mid-C20th but could be earlier. There are some minor blemishes commensurate with age that would disappear should you wish to repaint and distress them in a colour of your choice. All the joints in the head and footboard frames have been re-glued and repaired where necessary. The very minor areas of former damage do not detract from the appearance and really add to the patina of age, as illustrated in the images. You will notice that one side of each of the head and foot boards is vertical (see third image). This makes for a very versatile pair of beds as they can be configured in many ways whilst retaining their curvaceous and carved decorative appearance;They can be used as twin beds positioned each side of a room, with the vertical (or flat) sides against opposite walls.

As twin beds with the flat sides next to one another, with a bedside table in between, orAs a large double with 2 No. 3' x 6'6 mattresses zipped together, to form a large double bed.

The side rails simply bolt into the end frames with concealed bolts which is typical of this type of continental furniture. The inside rails (corresponding to the flat side of the head/footboards) are plain, whereas the other sides are carved to match the decoration on the foot boards. Each bed comes with 15 No. Timber slats (as shown) ready to accept your own standard 3' x 6' 6 mattress. One can choose to leave the slats loose or fix them in place if desired.

If left loose, it makes it easier to vacuum under the bed when the mattress is turned. Each head board has small holes drilled each side which could be used to pass a headphones or charger cable through to minimise exposed bedside cable runs. Dimensions:Headboards are 5' (1525mm) from floor to very top of carving.

Maximum width of headboard 41.5 (1050mm). Apologies the beds are not shown in a room setting. To give an idea of scale, the armoire/linen cupboard in one of the images stands at 7'7 (2335mm) high.
